When will the BSP's 2026 rate hikes reach borrowers?
The BSP raised rates three times in 2026, to 5.00%, with inflation at 6.19%. On published lag estimates, loan rates adjust in 2027, peak effect into 2028.
The BSP has raised rates three times in a row this year, and inflation is still above 6%. That looks like a policy that is not working. The timing of how rate rises reach the economy says otherwise: the latest increase has barely started.

Which central bank is in the same position as the BSP?
The Bank of Korea. Both are raising rates into above-target inflation. South Korea’s exports rose 78% in 1-20 September 2026 with chips up 259%, core inflation reached 3.4%, and the Bank of Korea raised rates in July and on 27 August — the same day as the BSP’s latest move. Taiwan, with the same chip boom but inflation projected at 2.03%, held. The Philippines, at 6.19%, is further from Taiwan’s position than South Korea is.
Which Philippine debts will feel higher rates first?
Floating-rate and short-term borrowing, then government debt as it is refinanced. National government debt is close in size to the money stock.

| M2 | PHP 19.87 trillion, +9.02% | July 2026 |
| Consumer prices | +6.19% | July 2026 |

What are the limits of these figures?
The 5, 9 and 15 months are the Bank of Korea's estimates for South Korea, and six months to two years is the ECB's description for the euro area; neither is an estimate for the Philippines. A further increase at the next Monetary Board meeting would add another overlapping timetable.

Inflation is still 6.19% after three hikes. Has the policy failed?
It cannot be judged yet. The latest increase came on 27 August 2026, and on the ranges used here its effect on prices peaks between August 2027 and August 2028.
How long does a rate rise take to reach borrowers?
The Bank of Korea estimates the peak response of lending rates at about 5 months, arrears among vulnerable borrowers at about 9 months and overall arrears at about 15 months. Why is there no Philippine household debt figure here?
This site does not hold a verified household debt series for the Philippines. Only national government debt from the Bureau of the Treasury is shown, and no substitute figure is estimated.
